Coalescing Filter Cartridges

Coalescing filters are critical to high-efficiency industrial separation, designed to remove dispersed liquids and contaminants from process streams. Using engineered media and optimized system design, coalescers merge fine droplets into larger ones for effective separation. Proper sizing and configuration ensure reliable performance, lower maintenance, and extended system life. Vytal offers liquid-liquid, liquid-gas, and compressed air coalescers built for demanding industrial environments where uptime and product quality matter.

How coalescers work

Coalescing filter elements remove dispersed liquid contaminants from process streams by combining microscopic droplets into larger droplets that can be separated and drained away. As fluid passes through the engineered multilayer media, fine liquid droplets are captured and progressively merge into larger droplets. Once they reach a sufficient size, the droplets migrate through the drainage layer and collect in the filter housing sump, where they can be removed manually or automatically. This three-stage process, capture, coalescence, and drainage, efficiently separates immiscible liquids, helping protect downstream equipment, improve process reliability, and extend the service life of filtration systems in industrial liquid applications.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a coalescing filter and how does it differ from standard depth or pleated cartridges?

Coalescing filters use fine fibrous media to capture and merge liquid aerosols into larger droplets that can be separated.

A coalescing filter removes condensed water, liquid aerosols, and oil mist. Capturing moisture and aerosols before they damage downstream equipment extends compressor life and prevents contamination in critical applications.

Yes, coalescing filter elements can be engineered for multiple duties. Liquid-liquid applications remove immiscible fluids like water from oils, while liquid-gas applications extract aerosols from gas streams. Your specific application determines the media type and housing needed for optimal performance.

Monitor differential pressure across the oil coalescing filter housing. Replace when differential pressure reaches the manufacturer's recommended limit. Regular inspection and maintenance based on operating hours prevent downtime.

Coalescing air filters are essential in energy (amine systems), food & beverage (filling equipment), pharmaceutical, water treatment, and paint & coatings. Any industry relying on compressed air or process gas protection depends on coalescers to prevent liquid contamination and maintain equipment reliability.

Yes. Coalescing filters are commonly paired with particulate filter cartridges in multi-stage systems. Upstream particulate filters protect the coalescer from solids, while downstream polishing filters remove any remaining fine particulate contamination, maximizing system performance and cartridge life.
